RUMOR: Samsung/Blackberry To Team Up For Device

Poor BlackBerry just cannot seem to catch a break with daily rumors swirling around the troubled smartphone manufacturer that was at one time at the top of the heap before it slid all the way to the bottom.  There were rumors earlier this year that Samsung was going to buy BlackBerry – and BlackBerry’s stock went up 30-percent – and finally that rumor was squashed.  Then, around May, there were rumors that Apple was going to buy BlackBerry, but that proved to be false.  Next in the rumor mill was Microsoft and/or Chinese OEMs and then we read where BlackBerry designed a new phone to run Android.  We list all of these rumors to emphasize that this too is a rumor tweeted by Eldar Murtazin, a well-known blogger and an analyst, with a less than impeccable track record when it comes to leaks.  However, with all that has been happening between Samsung and BlackBerry, this latest rumor may have an air of credibility.

Samsung started advertising BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) two years ago and ever since then, the two have had a sort of partnership going on.  Samsung is very interested in pushing their products to enterprise, so they have worked with BlackBerry to the point that BlackBerry’s enterprise services are already compatible with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.  Although Samsung denied the rumors that they were purchasing BlackBerry for $ 7.5 billion, they did acknowledge that they would like to extend their partnership with BlackBerry.

The prospect of a Samsung and BlackBerry teaming up on a smartphone is a very intriguing idea.  According to recent reports, BlackBerry’s Android phone, made by Samsung, will look a lot like the Galaxy S6 Edge, only with a slide-out keyboard – has the world gone crazy…it would be a combination of new world and old world.  It would run on Android, yet have access to BlackBerry services and could be a winning combination.  It would also make perfect sense for Samsung to get its foot in the enterprise and corporate world.  Just remember, as intriguing as this idea may be, it is only a rumor, but if the tweeter is correct, he believes it will be here later this year.
