HTC Begins Android 5.0 Update For One Max International

Android 5.0 Lollipop remains a version of the software which has still yet to make it to plenty of handsets, and sadly for some, it will remain this way until the end of time. Once in a while though a surprise comes along and manufacturers end up beginning to send out updates for a device that hasn’t yet received it, which will undoubtedly delight those who still use that particular device. In this case, we’re referring to the HTC One Max, which has reportedly begun seeing updates to the Android 5.0 version software in some markets. According to the report, the HTC One Max in some Asian regions, as well as some people in European regions started seeing alerts for the software update package today.

If this ends up a limited run of the software update for now, it’s possible HTC is doing a soak test of sorts or maybe this was simply where they decided to start with the update process. Considering this, users in North America and other places where the HTC One Max was sold may see an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop sometime in the future. Multiple people through Twitter and XDA Developers have stated they have received the software update to their device, some posting screenshots displaying the alert status showing up on screen. This includes people in Poland, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, and France.

Since these are international models of the One Max, and the ones sold here in the U.S. come locked to their respective carriers, there is a good chance the AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Sprint models might have a longer wait to get the new software since it’ll have to be tested on their networks first before they deem it ready to be sent out to subscribers. Unfortunately, there is no detail on a timeframe for when customers of these carriers who still own and use the HTC One Max can expect to see the update alert on their own phones. If you’re a user in one of the above-listed countries where the update has started to surface, it’s been stated as coming in at a 760MB file download, so you’ll want to make sure there is enough room on the phone to store and install the software update when it comes in. If you haven’t yet received the status alert about the new software, you can always check manually by going to the about phone section within settings.
