AOSP Changelog May Suggest 5.1.1 Update For Nexus 6 Is Near

Earlier today Google finally posted up the OTA download links as well as the factory images for the Android 5.1.1 update for the Nexus 9 tablets in both the WiFi-only and LTE models of the device, bringing users of the tablet forward to the software build number LMY47X. The Nexus 9 wasn’t alone as the Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 both received factory images links and OTA download links for Android 5.1.1 as well. This leaves the Nexus 6 behind as the last smartphone out of the three which are currently supported to get software updates, on Android 5.1. However, that could be changing soon as the AOSP developer changelog for the Nexus 6′ 5.1.1 builds has just been posted.

The changelog unfortunately, doesn’t really give out any information, and it’s quite small in fact which is usually not the case with changelogs for software updates. Although there is really no specific details as to what the changelog is introducing to the Nexus 6, it does at least suggest that the Android 5.1.1 update could be just around the corner for device owners. This could include the OTA roll out to users as well as the factory images being posted, although not exactly in that order, and shortly after that begins users can expect those who have already gotten the updates officially over-the-air to post up OTA download links making it possible to install the software manually without waiting for the update.

The changelog posted up is listed as comparing Android 5.1.1 r_2 to Android 5.1.1_r3. It’s also listed with the build number LMY48B which is a later build than what went out today for the other Nexus devices. If the updates begin soon, they will likely happen in a staged rollout just like they do with virtually any other software update, so the complete process could take weeks before all the Nexus 6 variations are sitting on this new upcoming build, whenever it happens to drop. If you happen to be a Nexus 6 user, look out for the software update to Android 5.1.1 which should be mostly about bug fixes, and hopefully that includes the memory leak for those who have been experiencing the issue.
