Featured: Top Apps Of The Week

New apps are released all the time, and it can be hard to sift through everything in the Play Store to find new and exciting additions to the app space. It can also be difficult to find what exactly is new and set it apart from other apps that have been around for months, so we have a collection of a handful off apps which went live this week for you to check out.

Hexy Launcher

Hexy Launcher is a sort of pet project from Swiftkey’s Greenhouse Project, similar to their earlier entry of Clarity Keyboard. It takes your installed applications and places all of them in a grid of Hexagonal shape, and apparently learns from the way you use apps to attempt at organizing and prioritizing your most used apps for you to use in the future. It’s interesting to say the least and worth checking out if you want to see something new.

Close5

Think of Close5 as a hyperlocalized version of eBay which works similar to craigslist. It’s intent is to help people buy and sell items locally. It’s only currently supported in a few locations at the moment which includes Las Vegas, San Francisco, and San Diego, but if you live in any of those areas and aren’t a fan of Craigslist for posting classifieds, give Close5 a try.

HTC Mail

Just like with HTC’s other device specific apps, this one only applies to those who own and use an HTC device. With HTC Mail now on the Play Store though users will be able to get quick, incremental updates for new features or bug fixes without waiting for larger system level software updates.

Moon Tours

If you have any interest in accessing mapped lunar data as well as interactive visualization tools of the moon, NASA has provided you with an application which will allow you access to such things. Moon Tours has a collection of tons of lunar map data which may be just the thing to help with those school projects that revolve around the moon.

Wear Mail

We posted about this earlier in the week, but as a recap, Wear Mail is a Gmail client for your Android Wear device which lets you get a more robust Gmail experience from your wrist. You can access and view attachments, type emails using the included QWERTY keyboard and more.

MixRadio

If you’re not fond of Pandora and its aptness for helping you discover new music to stream and listen to, MixRadio went live for Android users this week which provides you with a way to find new music to enjoy. It attempts to learn what you like and serve you up more tunes, you can select favorite bands or artists to listen to or browse through a library of curated music that is handpicked.

Layout

Layout is Instagram’s new app which intends to give you a collection of new and exciting ways to group up some of your photos and allowing you to share them with others. It will support up to nine photos at a time which you can then place in a handful of different layout options to be shared. It also holds other features like Photobooth mode which focuses on spontaneous imagery.
